A New Tomorrow
Amor et Ages: The Restoration Path of the Ancient Monastery
Historically, the building complex was envisioned by Father Vincenzo Galassi. It was later inhabited over the centuries by Saint Dominique’s nuns. Notably, the monastery was founded thanks to the assets of the Company of Our Lady of the Snow. Located in the heart of Pratovecchio, this sacred place could not remain silent and empty forever.

A World Within the Walls
In fact, the restoration project aims to revive an architectural complex that held great significance for this community. The inspiration for this work is found within the mysterious structure itself. Although it remains hidden from the world’s eyes, the building is essential to the spiritual life of the area. Indeed, it is nestled behind walls that once dictated the rhythm of life for an entire village.
Mariae Nivis, a vow of love
Specifically, the original name, Mariae Nivis, draws strength from the Marian symbolism of water and snow. It represents a hopeful future that must be nurtured day by day. Therefore, Stefano Freschi and Denise Vangelisti are committed to recovering both materials and memory. Furthermore, materially revitalizing the complex entails restoring the relationship between the monastery and the people. This exchange was once the primary nourishment for the entire area.

Projects for the Area
Additionally, many new projects will unfold from within these ancient walls. These initiatives will focus on vital themes such as Beauty, art, and culture. We believe these elements are forms of human empowerment and elevation. Moreover, we respect Nature as a divine Creation and a place of transformation.
Consequently, the Domus Mariae Nivis will be spiritually connected to the forests of Mount Falterona. This is the sacred place where the Arno river originates. Notably, the source of the river is closely linked to the “Lake of Idols,” a unique archaeological site.
Finally, Denise and Stefano have initiated a special beech forest conservation project. To achieve this, they are working together with Federparchi and the National Park of Casentino Forests.
